The Remarkables

Wednesday, 8 November 2017
Today, after an amazing breakfast at Nichols Garden Centre in Cromwell; highly recommend their cafe, we headed up to The Remarkables Ski Field. Due to the big, out of season snow dump on Tuesday night, there was still some snow around. It is 13 km up to get to the car-park at the base of the ski field. My son, Adam has loaned up his Nissan Safari to use while we are here. It's dirty, rattly and makes lots of strange noises, but he's told us to ignore those. There were photo opportunities on every corner of the drive up and many in between. Below are only a few of them.

On the way down we stopped for some more photos and I found a decent patch of snow, so waited to ambush Pete when he came back to the vehicle with snow balls. I won - I got him 3 times he only got me once, although his one filled my ear up with snow.

We then headed up to Glenorchy and Paradise, but that's for another blog post.

Flight from Auckland to Queenstown

Tuesday, 7 November 2017
Today, Pete and I got up at 3am to drive down to Brisbane Airport. We were heading to NZ, to Queenstown via Auckland, to stay with my son, Adam and his partner Candice, who have built a home in Cromwell. I had a text from Adam when I arrived in Auckland saying "big dump of snow last night".  Unfortunately it will only last for a few days and probably half of it has already melted.

In Cromwell and most of the lower South Island it is light until after 9pm and as summer arrives, daylight gets longer. Mind you, in winter, it is the opposite.

The photos below tell the story. Beautiful.
