Hot days

Friday, 29 September 2017
We have had two very hot days here on the Sunshine Coast - in the mid 30's. I am very grateful for the air conditioning in my office office on days like this.  I prop my door 3/4's closed to keep the office cool, while still allowing the clients to see me and know they can come in if they want.

I started the day off early, with our usual Friday morning beach session. The sun was a brilliant orange as I drove to down to the beach. The tide was out, exposing the rocks, and as I was early I walked out over them to get some photos of the waves breaking up over them.

I had a shower and breakfast at my Aunts, she was off at yoga, but as I have a key, I let myself in. I had my usual breakfast protein smoothie. I walked over to the cafe just across the road from her apartment and got myself a yummy berry and chocolate muffin for my morning tea.

We have started winding down at work as our program is not being refunded. I have spent the last two days shredding paperwork that will no longer be needed and have got 5 rubbish bags full - which my worm farm will love and will keep them going for many months. Some will go into my compost bin.

I also cleaned out some of the kitchen cupboards at work, and threw out old jars, lids with no containers and vice versa. Eventually everything will need to be packed up and either stored or donated. It will be quite a job to get it all cleaned, 8 bedrooms, two living areas, kitchens, bathrooms and 2 staff offices/sleepover rooms and ensuites.  I only have one week left there and then will be unemployed for a while, until early next year if things go to plan.

Tonight, I am babysitting my grand-daughters as my son is working and my daughter-in-law and her girlfriend (who is on holiday from Victoria) have gone to the Caloundra Music Festival. I will go home once the girls return = probably around midnight I'm guessing.

  1. How long have you been working at this place for Lyndie?
Our kids fly to Brisbane Monday to visit their Oma and Opa. I'll be putting them on that plane in shorts and t-shirts. Have the summer pyjamas ready to go and bathers of course.
Hope you had a good night with your granddaughters.

    1. I've been with the organisation for 15 months, in 3 different roles, all within Adult Mental Health and at Daliya House since April 25th of this year. Hopefully your kids will have slightly cooler weather Kylie, it is meant to be dropping to 23 tomorrow - just like Melbourne weather, huge degree changes in a very short time span. The girls were good. Got up about 10.20, from a sleep with one ear open to give Tamara a bottle and put her in her "sleeping bag" as her legs felt a little cool. Cheer Lyndie

  2. Lyndie, what will happen to your clients? I know first hand what happens to people with a MI when funding is cut and it isn't good. Sometimes I wonder if people who make these decisions have any experience of having a family member with a mental health issue.

    1. Hi Nanna Chel. Yes the clients. I guess the hospital will place them in 'camping grounds' or they'll be on the street, homeless. The program was not funded by the government for the first three years and due to the uncertainty of NDIS funding, those who funded last time are unable to again and the government won't. A usual, those in high places making these decisions have no idea what it is like for those the funding is used to help - typical and really disappointing. Cheers Lyndie
