Just outside the shop, under the shelter of the eaves were two large Golden Orb spiders. While I can appreciate their unique beauty, I prefer to do so at a distance - far to many long creepy legs for my liking. This web had lots and lots and lots of little baby orb spiders in it.
The walks through the gorge are not long and the track is well marked. The river is very picturesque. We enjoyed the bush, hearing some birds, seeing diggings beside the track made by some animal (we tossed up many ideas as to what had done the digging, some very far fetched) and seeing the variations in the flora. It took us much longer than it should to walk 3 km's as Pete spent ages taking photos, trying to get the perfect shot.
That spider is huge!! Hi, I came from Rhonda's blog. We live in New Mexico in the states. You have great pictures, I'm glad to meet you,Elaine
ReplyDeleteHi Elaine, yes it was huge and being a New Zealander, we don't have big scary spiders, so it has been a huge learning curve for me to life alongside the Australian wildlife.
DeleteHi Lyndie,
ReplyDeleteI found you via Rhonda and I like the look of your blog.
I am in an older age group than you (70) but I am young at heart although my body does remind me at times of my true age.
I live in Busselton, Western Australia, but we have travelled extensively throughout Australia in our caravan and Queensland is our favorite state, especially the Sunshine Coast. We have stayed at the Mossman Caravan Park and thoroughly enjoyed the Gorge, Cape Tribulation, the Daintree rain forest and river. We also drove up to Cooktown and drove back through the Bloomfield Track, after which the back wheel of our 4 wheel drive fell off - but that's another story.
I will definitely be following your blog.
Best wishes.
Hi Marilyn. Would love to hear of your travels- Pete and I intend to take off around Australia in 2019, in our 4WD, pulling an off road caravan, taking 2 or 3 years to do so, working as we go. Thanks for your comment.
DeletePete has taken some beautiful photos. Looks like a fairytale setting.
ReplyDeleteKylie
Thanks Kylie, I actually took all the photos I've used on my trusty Iphone. Pete's photos are a lot more artistically composed. I'll use some of his once he uploads them to my computer. Cheers Lyndie
DeleteI don't blame you for keeping your distance from the spider, all I can say is yuk!
ReplyDeleteSpiders are not my friend at all Sharyn. I'm trying to overcome my fear of them, with not much success - lol.
Deletehow does one over come their fear of spiders? i find them & scorpions too creepy for words, though living out in the country has had a more quieting or calming effect now, i'm not so disturbed by them except when they insist on living inside my house! i leave them alone now out in the garden & don't run a mile when i see them lol
ReplyDeletelooking forward to seeing more of your travels too.
visiting from Rhonda's blog
thanx for sharing
Overcoming a fear isn't easy. I'm trying exposure therapy on myself - I stand as close as I can and stay there until my breathing settles and I'm comfortable being that close. With my husband being a FIFO worker, I don't have a choice but to deal with the odd huntsman spider who comes inside. I won't kill them, so have to capture them and release them in the garden - it takes a while for me to build up the nerve to place a container over the top of them and if they move while I'm attempting that, well, I do a bit of a dance around and maybe even shriek a little :).
