As I sit at my computer tonight, typing this blog entry up, I can hear the wonderful sound of rain on the roof, and if I go into my bedroom I can hear the water running off the roof and into the tank. Lightning is streaking across the sky, both sheet and forked; I wish I could capture it on camera; followed some seconds later by thunder which rolls around for a a good 30 seconds or more. Hopefully, no bush or grass fires are being started by lightning strikes, the vegetation is so dry.

My day started off with quickly vacuum packing some tomatoes I free flow froze. Not only does vacuum packing before putting back in the freezer stop the development of lots of ice around the tomatoes, but it helps reduce the amount of room they take up in the freezer. I have 4 lots in the freezer now and another tray full to vacuum pack tomorrow morning.

Then it was off to beach exercise class. There was a mist hanging over the now bare land where earlier this year a pine forest was harvested. It reminded me a little of winter at home, NZ, where we would have days of thick fog.

The sun was already up by the time I got to the beach, but as always the sunlight reflecting on the water had me snapping a photo or two. Then it was off to my Aunts in Maroochydore to have a quick shower and a chat, before heading off to work. I never tire of the view from her balcony out over the Maroochy River winding its way out to sea. When I was there Tuesday evening, kite surfers were out playing in the waves. This morning, I didn't even see paddle boarders, even though it was such a beautiful morning.

Work, well, what can I say, another day at the office. It was my colleague's last day today so I made her some Raspberry Scrolls - the smell while they were cooking permeated throughout the house, even upstairs, drawing most residents out of their rooms to see what was baking. They were delicious.

Home via the supermarket to buy protein balls for our big walk Sunday, wraps, milk and vegemite. I don't actually like vegemite, in fact, I think it is disgusting, but I am using it on a nasty ulcer I have under my tongue. Two people have told me to put vegemite on it several times a day for a couple of days and they promise it will go away. It better, I nearly gag at the taste of it and it stings something wicked when I put it on the ulcer. Anyway, I forgot the stupid vegemite, so will have to rinse the mouth with salt water until I go back to the supermarket tomorrow.  Nothing else has worked, so I'm willing to keep on for another day. Do any of you have a remedy for mouth ulcers that really does work?

In just over an hour, I'm heading down to the airport to pick up my daughter who is flying in for a three day weekend, to do our walk on Sunday. It will be so wonderful to see her and spend time with her, even if it is too short an amount of time.

A Day in My Life

Thursday, 14 September 2017
I thought I'd share my day with you.  I work fulltime, for now so weekday life for me starts when my alarm goes off either at 4.45am (Monday, Wednesday) or 5-5.15, the other three week days. Today, being Thursday, is "leg" day at the gym - groan. Here I am, sitting/lying back on the leg press, getting ready to press 40 kg, which in isn't really that much, considering my legs carry around much more than that each and every day. Next week I'll up it to 60 kg and give them a better work out, or maybe not, as we have a 17 km hill hike that weekend.  My leg workout takes me about 50 minutes, I have 4 sets of 2 different exercises, with a 45 second rest between each exercise. I have to admit to getting a little impatient and often don't wait the full 45 seconds, but we won't tell my PT that.

Then it's home to throw something together for lunch, as I had run out of pre prepared roasted vegetables, so I grabbed a banana, some eggs and nut butter to make egg banana pancakes at work. They were ok, not wonderful, but filled the gap.

I also remembered that it was my daughters birthday, so I quickly took photos of old photos on my phone so I could do a facebook post to her as well as ring her. It was 6.35 am here, 8.35 am in NZ when I rung to wish her a happy birthday and see what her husband and kids had bought her. Below are two of the photos I used, one from her first birthday, the other from 2014. She  was born between 3 and 3.30 am, so really I should have rung her at that time of the morning. She turned 35 today. Yes, her eyes really are that blue as are both her brothers.

Then it was off to a job interview. My current contract runs out on 16th October and the program I work for is not being refunded. I'm happy to be unemployed, but feel I should do my share to pay the mortgage etc. My job interview was held in a cafe in Yandina and while waiting (I'm always early) I took a photo of the old pub. I love old buildings.  I think the interview went well and if I get the job I'll be back to part-time work, which means working won't interfere with living as much as it does at the moment.

After work I headed straight to acupuncture. I was going to get Andrew to take a photo of all the needles in me, but thought that might be a bit confronting for some people. Andrew also did some cupping on my shoulders and lower back, so I am now sporting a few lovely round bruises, which really freak people out if they see them. This is the third lot of acupuncture I've had this time round and already my shoulder pain has reduced by a good 70%. Now that he has got that under control, work on my neck, calf muscles and Achilles tendons begins. Needles in the Achilles can be a bit painful, initially, but once again, I have noticed such a difference when I am doing hill walking - no pain.

Next it was home and a big dish of vegetables in to roast, a quick stirfry of mushrooms, zucchini and capsicum with a sprinkle of paprika, served with slow cooked boned pork shoulder that cooked all night last night in the slow cooker - delicious.

Now it's bedtime, catching up on sleep and energizing the body ready for beach session tomorrow morning at 6 (if I actually get out of bed, I'm tossing up whether I'll give it a miss and allow the acupuncture and cupping a day to do their work properly).

Good night.
